About Succulents
What are Succulents?
Succulents or succulent plants (also known as fat plants) are plants with thick, fleshy parts that usually retain water for dry climates and soil conditions.
Succulents are often grown as ornamental plants because of their striking and unusual appearance. There are a large variety of species and they, therefore, come in a variety of colours, shapes and textures. Even cacti are by definition succulents, but they are often referred to separately from other succulents.
These plants have the amazing ability to propagate easily. With some species a new plant can be grown from a leave that has fallen off the plant.

How to care for succulents
Succulents store moisture in their fleshy parts and are therefore very tolerant to dry conditions, but they still need water regularly during their growing season. Water them well and then let the soil dry out between watering to prevent rotting of the roots. Succulents need well-drained soil and can thrive in cracks and crevasses, rockeries and sandy or gritty soils.
Morning and/or evening sun with afternoon full or partial shade (at least 50%) is ideal. Most succulents can tolerate full sunlight, however some can get sunburn if they are in full sun during the afternoon when the temperatures are highest.
Since not all plants can grow in all climates, please ask us to make sure the succulents you choose can grow in your area.
