About Aloes
What are aloes?
South Africa has over 120 species of Aloe plants - the most commonly known is probably Aloe Vera - not only for it's beauty, but also it's medicinal value. All aloes have rosettes of thick, fleshy leaves and bright orange, yellow or red flowers.
Many aloes appear stemless with its rosette growing just of the ground, but others are tree-like with fleshy leaves growing of a branch or unbranched stem. They can become a few meters tall.
Aloes are usually long lived plants, especially the larger species - with the right care of course!

How to care for aloes
Aloes need to be planted in soil with very good drainage. They require full sun of at least 6-8 hours a day. Aloe plants need regular watering to flourish, but are very tolerant to drought and can therefore go for long periods without water. They store water in their fleshy leaves that help them survive these dry periods.
Since not all plants can grow in all climates, please ask us to make sure the aloe you choose can grow in your area.
